Airtel 1 Paisa Per Second,Airtel launches Pay Per Second Tariff
Posted by Raj mobile tariff plan 9:13 AMIndia's largest mobile operator Bharti Airtel on Friday introduced a “per-second billing” plan with a tariff of 1-paisa per second to take on increased competition and attractive tariff plans being offered by its rivals.
Interestingly, the announcement has come just a few hours after the company reported its quarterly numbers.
In this plan, called Freedom Plan, Airtel's customers can now pay 1-paisa per second for all local and national calls on the Bharti network and 1.20 paise per second for calls on other networks.
The new billing system will allow Airtel's 11 crore customers to pay for the number of seconds they talk. Bharti's rivals like Aircel and DoCoMo have offered pay-per-character for SMS and pay-per-second plans recently.
The recent mobile tarff war is being seen as a bonanza for customers but it is going to hurt the bottomlines of the telecom
firms.
Bharti's move may now standardise pay-per-second as the billing norm if other major players like Vodafone also follow suit.
HCC's Lavasa Corp to raise Rs 2000 cr By IPO, Pune IT City Lavasa
Posted by Raj Miscellaneous 7:39 PMLavasa Corporation, a subsidiary of Mumbai-based Hindustan Construction Company, plans to raise around Rs 2,000 crore through an initial public offering during the second half of next year.
‘Lavasa lake city,’ the country’s first ever manually developing hill station, is being built up in the vicinity of Varasgoan dam area by Hindustan Construction Company near Pune.
This area has become the attraction point for the visitors coming from all over the country.
“Lavasa is not a township or a huge real-estate project such as the Sahara group’s Amby Valley. It is a sort of a town that aims at providing housing for people from all strata of society. This place, as per the estimate will create jobs for those living in this area,” said Lavasa Corporation President Rajgopal Nogja.
In the last one year, the company has raised Rs 650 crore by offloading 6.5 per cent equity to various banks like Axis Bank, Allahabad Bank and Bank of India, valuing the firm at Rs 10,000 crore.
In the quarter ended September, Andhra Bank and United Bank of India invested Rs 75 crore in Lavasa Corporation through Deep Discounted Convertible Debentures.
The company, which is developing a township in Lavasa near Pune, has now commenced laying infrastructure for the second phase of the project.
Lavasa aims at developing five 'towns' in the hill-station project and expects to sell commercial and residential space in the second town at a 15-20 per cent premium
Lavasa is being framed in four sections, of them the first section will be ready by 2010 with almost thousands houses and five hundred apartments in it. The second section will start from next year and will be ready by 2014. And the other remaining areas are being discussed.
“We are managing the Rs 40,000 crore investments through equity, debts and internal accruals as of now. We will come out with an IPO at an appropriate time,” Nogja added.
Looking at Pune as a potential city for IT related activities, the builders have started getting some more IT hubs in Lavasa.
Videocon DTH Offers Access via DVD player, Review DTH Services
Posted by Raj Miscellaneous 8:04 PMDirect to Home (DTH) television can be accessed now with a DVD player. For the first time in the country, D2H, the DTH service from the Videocon Group, is offering DTH via three alternate platforms to the traditional connections — by DTH-enabled satellite DVD, DTH-enabled LCD TV, and DTH-enabled TV sets as per report by Business Standard.
The Videocon company recently rolled out its DTH services and hopes to corner at least two million subscribers by offering differentiated services, says Anil Khera, CEO. The D2H DTH brand is the sixth private DTH player in the market, that recently crossed 16 million subscribers.
“Our research shows that consumers owning TV sets also have a DVD player, a cable or a DTH box, all packed one above the other due to space constraint. Through Videocon TH-enabled DVD player, a consumer can not only access the DTH service, but can also watch movies on DVD,” says Khera.
Industry estimates suggest there are 45-50 million homes in India that currently own a DVD player and the size of the business is estimated to be around Rs 900 crore. “A DVD player that can access a DTH service, too, will only boost the DVD market,” says a senior executive of a leading movie rental company.
The D2H DTH has set a target of acquiring at least two million subscribers within a year through its various offerings. It has outlined an annual spending of around Rs 1,000 crore for this purpose, sources say.

Posted by Raj mobile tariff plan 9:05 AMReliance Communications (RCom) on Monday launched a new ‘Simply Reliance Plan’ on its CDMA and GSM networks, which offers a single rate of 50 paise per minute across the country with no hidden charges.
As per this plan the users would only have to pay 50 paise per min call rate across India.

This service can easily be started on the prepaid connections via one time tariff of Rs 48 while the postpaid users will pay about Rs 99.
“There are no conditions applied. This is not one of those where we show a headline rate and if you try to actually interpret it, actually comes to three times the cost,” he said. The single rate of 50 paise per minute applies to all local and STD calls as well as any mobile landline, CDMA or GSM from anywhere in India,” Mukherjee said Existing or new pre-paid customers have to purchase a one-time special tariff voucher for Rs 48 to enjoy lifetime validity. The plan will be supported by RCOM’s 3G-ready network.
Microsoft Security Patch, Releases Biggest Security Patch
Posted by Raj Miscellaneous, Windows 10:09 AMMicrosoft Corp issued its biggest software patch on record on Tuesday to fix a range of security issues in its programmes, including th
e yet to be released Windows 7 operating system.
Microsoft released 13 security bulletins, or patches, to address 34 vulnerabilities it identified across its Windows, Internet Explorer, Silverlight, Office and other products.
It said six of the patches were high priority and should be deployed immediately. The patches -- which update software to write over glitches -- are designed to protect users from hackers or malicious software downloaded from the Internet.
Several of the patches affect Windows 7, the software maker's new operating system, which will be officially unveiled next week, but has been widely used in test versions.
Such an early sign of security issues on Windows 7 is potentially worrisome for Microsoft, which is hoping its new operating system will erase bad feelings among many customers who bought the predecessor, Vista.
A Microsoft spokesperson could not immediately say whether the company had identified further security problems with Windows 7. The company generally does not disclose such problems until it has patches available.
The vulnerabilities in Windows 7, including the risk of having a PC taken over by a hacker, were serious flaws, but to be expected, according to Dave Marcus, senior researcher at software security firm McAfee Inc.
"As long as human beings are writing code there are always going to be vulnerabilities," he said. Tuesday's update included the largest number of patches to be issued on a single day by Microsoft.
Corporate users will need to test the patches before they deploy them to make sure they do not cause machines to crash because of compatibility issues with existing software.

About 7.5 tons of World Trade Center steel was melted at the Bradken Inc. foundry in Amite, La., and used in the New York’s bow.
The USS New York, named to commemorate the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, left the Northrop Grumman shipyard where it was built for the trip to its namesake city. The $1 billion ship will be formally commissioned in New York in early November.
The New York is 684 feet long and can carry up to 800 Marines. It has a flight deck that can handle helicopters and the MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft.
The New York revives a name held by at least four other Navy ships, including a Spanish-American War-era cruiser, a battleship that served in World Wars I and II and a nuclear submarine retired from the fleet in 1997.
The ship is a San Antonio-class amphibious dock vessel. The first four ships in the series — the USS San Antonio, USS New Orleans, USS Mesa Verde and USS Green Bay — are in service. Four other ships in the class ate under construction: Somerset and Anchorage at the Avondale yard, and Arlington and San Diego at Northrop Grumman’s yard in Pascagoula, Miss.
Arlington and Somerset also carry names connected to the Sept. 11 attacks: Arlington for the attack on the Pentagon and Somerset for the Pennsylvania county in which United Airlines Flight 93 crashed after being hijacked.

NASA Moon Bombing LCROSS Mission, Watch Video Of Moon Bombing, Rocket Explosion
Posted by Raj Miscellaneous, Tech News 4:04 AMOn Friday morning, an unmanned spacecraft launched in June will crash into the moon's surface.
NASA's LCROSS mission (short for Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite) sends a spent booster rocket crashing into a crater near the lunar south pole, looking to see if there is ice mixed in the soil of the crater's floor.
Scientists think there may be billions of gallons of it, but so far they haven't been able to prove it.
LCROSS launched with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) aboard an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral, Fla., on June 18, 2009 at 2:32 p.m. PDT. The LCROSS shepherding spacecraft and the Atlas V’s Centaur upper stage rocket executed a fly-by of the moon on June 23, 2009.
LCROSS booster will go plowing into the moon's surface at 5,600 miles per hour. It is expected to make a crater about 60 feet across -- and send 350 tons of rock and soil flying in all directions, creating a plume several miles high. If there is ice mixed in, a small satellite, flying on the same path less than 400 miles behind the rocket, should be able to detect it before it crashes too, about four minutes later.
