RIM announced its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. The tablet, named BlackBerry PlayBook, has a seven-inch screen and dual facing cameras. It has WiFi and Bluetooth but needs to link with a BlackBerry smartphone to access a cellular network.
RIM has yet to set an exact price for the PlayBook but says it will fall in the lower range of prices for consumer tablets already in the suddenly congested market.
BlackBerry Playbook Specifications

- 1 GB RAM
- Two cameras: a 5-megapixel camera at the back, and a 3-megapixel front-facing camera
- 1080p HD video
- QNX OS
- HDMI video output & microUSB jack
- 7-inch, 1024 x 600, capacitive multitouch display
- Only Wi-Fi, no 3G
- Bluetooth 2.1

Guess is that it will cost around the same as — or maybe a little less than — Apple’s iPad, which begins at $500. So something starting in the $400 to $500 range would not surprise us. And if carriers subsidize it with a 2-year 3G contract, it might be closer to $200 or $300.
The iPad comes in several different models (some with 3G capabilities and more storage capacity) that range from around $500 to $800. Some price experts have argued that $300 to $350 is the “sweet spot” for the PlayBook.
The PlayBook won’t go on sale until early 2011. We probably won’t have any details about the exact price for several more weeks.
